High-Hardness, High-Alkalinity Cooling Water: When Standard Phosphonates Hit Their Limit

 before the next blowdown.

Kairui addresses this corner of the envelope with dedicated high-hardness formulations and high-tolerance actives. KR-658 is designed for circulating cooling systems where calcium hardness and alkalinity can reach up to 1,500 ppm under high concentration index operation. At the active-ingredient level, PAPEMP combines a polymeric phosphonate backbone with high calcium tolerance and efficient inhibition of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium phosphate, and silica scale; it is specifically positioned for high-hardness, high-alkali, high-pH circulating water and can be paired with AA/AMPS copolymer for dispersion support. PAPE (polyol phosphate ester) fills a complementary role, providing scale and corrosion inhibition in high-hardness, high-alkalinity cooling and oilfield reinjection water.

The sourcing insight for formulation engineers is that “high hardness” is not a single problem. It is a combination of hydrolysis stability, calcium tolerance, and dispersant compatibility. A supplier that produces the full phosphonate and polymer matrix—HEDP, ATMP, PBTCA, PAPEMP, AA/AMPS, HPAA—can adjust that balance without reformulating from three different vendors’ certificates of analysis. Kairui’s five dedicated workshops and 280,000-ton annual capacity make that single-source reformulation practical rather than theoretical.
